General information

Famous all over the world, Chamonix is a lively city in the mountains. It was the first ski resort at the beginning of the twentieth century. It has developed thanks to tourism and become bigger in the course of different architectural periods.

During your walks, you will discover that Chamonix is full of historical buildings and memorials. Since 1924 with the Winter Olympics, Chamonix has been booming. But the real star in Chamonix is, of course, Mount Blanc. It has always been towering 4810 metres above the valley.

Wherever he is, the city will offer the traveller a dramatic view of the surrounding summits.

Whether you like sport or a stroll, adventure or dreaming, you will always find something to do. Everybody will experience Chamonix in their own way, and there is a long list of activities: museums, exhibitions, local shops, caves in the glacier, snow trains, cinemas, bowling, swimming pools, sports halls, ice rink … without mentioning the pedestrian centre with its cafés, Savoyard restaurants and varied shops.
